IF STEM: 3D Printing & Design

From candy to robots to rockets, there’s not much you can’t build as a 3D-printing expert. In this 3D printing course, you’ll master best practices of 3D modeling and printing, starting with basic shapes and building up to complex models. Learn, design, and watch your creations come to life — layer by incredible layer. This wouldn’t be a complete course without an entrepreneurial spin on making money with 3D modeling, printing, and blender. Thus, students will examine careers and ways to make money with their newly acquired Blender skills.

IF STEM: 3D Design and Animation

In this 3D animation course, students start out learning the history of 3D animation and imaging and get to know the 3D modeling software Blender. Students will go through modeling their first character, adding colors, textures, and materials, building in a full range of motion and movement animation skills. Then, students will build an environment from the ground up for their animated character as they tinker and explore Blender in new ways. We don’t stop there, students review the basics of Blender’s game engine and…yep you guessed it, get to create their own simple game using the engine. This wouldn’t be a complete course without an entrepreneurial spin on making money with 3D modeling, animation, and blender either, thus, students will examine careers and ways to make money with their newly acquired Blender skills.

IF STEM: Sound & Audio Mixing

Behind every song of the summer, feature film, or cartoon is a seasoned sound engineer. In this course, we’ll teach you how to record and produce pro-level sounds using Audacity audio editing software. From there, you can add effects to music and voice tracks, piece together multiple audio files for a layered sound, and learn the ins and outs of copyrighting your work. You can thank us later in your Grammy speech.

IF STEM: Minecraft Education Intro to STEAM

Have you ever wanted to create your own personal skin or explore the wonders of Redstone? Do you find yourself building impressive architectural structures that you’d like to share with others? Join us as we embark upon an adventure through science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) in the mystical world of Minecraft.

IF STEM: Computer Programming Foundations

Did you know computers have their very own language? Instead of words, computers talk in numbers and short commands. When you master their language, you can make cool things like interactive games, mazes, and digital art come to life. In this course, you’ll learn how to program using Scratch, the MIT Media Lab’s free programming-for-kids software, and how to talk to computers — no robot voice required.

IF STEM: Game Design and Development

In this course, you’ll learn how to design and develop your own games using Fusion 2.5, a user-friendly game-creation software from Clickteam. You’ll start by building and customizing pre-set games, and then you’ll create your own original adventure. Because if you want to play the next five-star-rated game, you’ll have to build it first.

IF STEM: LEGO Early Engineering

Do not let the word LEGO imply this course is only for children. Using the LEGO Early Engineering kit (9656) (this kit includes Duplo bricks), students will apply an investigative and exploratory approach to help understand the operation of simple and compound machines in everyday life, through the use of gears, wheels and axles, levers, and pulleys (foundational skills of mechanical engineering).

IF STEM: LEGO Engineering Simple & Powered Machines

Using the LEGO Simple & Powered Machines kit and other materials, students will connect science/engineering concepts to their everyday lives through the construction of fun and engaging projects such as a Fishing Rod, Hammer, Trundle Wheel, Letter Balance, Click-Clock, Windmill, Land Yacht, Flywheeler, Power Car, Dragster, and a Dog-bot.

IF STEM: LEGO Robotics WeDo 2.0

Do you like building with LEGOs? Do you think robots are cool? This course will guide you as you examine basic physics, biology, and environmental concepts using the LEGO WeDo 2.0 platform.

IF STEM: Rocketry Foundations

Using both Stomp Rockets and Estes Model Rockets, students will apply an investigative and exploratory approach to understand the basics of rocket flight and the design of rockets.
